WELCOME TO SICILY

We are so excited to invite you to the beautiful town of Capo D’Orlando!

We understand it is a long way to travel and Capo is a new spot for most, so if you do plan to make your way to the Sicilian coast here’s a guide to help you prepare for your trip.

the capo lifestyle

WEATHER: The weather is humid and will be low 30s during the end of August. Being on the coast you will feel a breeze but most of your time will likely be spent cooling off in the beach as it can get too hot walking around all day - think Bali weather.
WHAT TO WEAR: Pack light, breathable clothing—think linens and bathers all day every day. Everyone will spend their days on the beach in a pair of bathers, even the Nonnas.
COASTAL VILLAGE: This small town doesn’t have bustling shopping centers or gourmet restaurants, but it’s packed with amazing food, friendly locals, and an unspoiled village atmosphere. Picture savoring Nonna’s homemade pasta with an Aperol rather than dining at a high-end restaurant.
SIESTA TIME: In true Sicilian fashion, siesta is sacred! From 1 pm to 5 pm, most shops and restaurants will close. A few beachside spots may stay open, but we suggest grabbing lunch before 1 pm or packing a beach picnic if you’re not into napping.
CAPO TIME: When in Capo, please remember this is a small village with little to no tourists, so things may be a little slower than what you experience in some of the major cities across Europe! If you wait 20 minutes for a coffee, sit back and enjoy the view.
LANGUAGE: English speakers are rare in Capo, and most menus won’t be in English. Here are some handy phrases to help you along:
  • Hello: Ciao or Salve
  • Goodbye: Ciao
  • My name is: Mi chiamo (pronounced “me kiamo”)
  • I’m here for a wedding: Sono qui per un matrimonio
  • Please: Per favore
  • Thank you: Grazie
  • You’re welcome: Prego
  • Nice to meet you: Piacere (pronounced “pi-ah-che-reh”
  • Can I have…: Vorrei i.e "Can I please have a beer?" “Vorrei una birra per favore”
  • Espresso: Cafe
  • Long black: Americano or cafe lungo
  • Piccolo: Macchiato
  • Cappucino: Cappucino (don’t order this after lunch)
  • How are you?: Come stai?
  • Where is _______?: Dove (pronounced dov-eh)_______?
  • Left: Sinistra
  • Right: Destra
And remember, hand gestures are always welcome in Italy!
